Parliamentary Services:

First elected as a Member of the Parliament of the Cook Islands on the 30th March 1983.  From 1983 to 2004, Member of Parliament; 2004 to 2006, Speaker of the House (unelected); 2006 to present, Member of Parliament.  Mr. Norman George has been in Parliament for 24 years.

1984 - 1989, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Customs, Parliamentary Services, Cook Islands Development Bank, Police and Attorney General

National Superannuation Scheme; MPs Superannuation Scheme; Select Committee - Law and Order; Environment and Electoral Act

Service Information:

Cook Islands Police (Sub-Inspector) 1966-1968; New Zealand Police Force (Detective CIB) 1968-72; New Zealand Police Force (Senior Sergeant) 1972-79; Cook Islands Consular (Auckland - New Zealand) 1979-82.  Since 1982 practicing as Barrister and Solicitor in Rarotonga.

Visits, Conferences and Delegations:

Attended the 53rd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference, New Delhi, India, 20-30

September 2007 as head of delegation.  Also attended 12 other CPA meetings, conferences and workshops in Wellington (NZ), Canberra (ACT), Adelaide (SA), Melbourne (VIC), London, Samoa, Fiji and Kenya.

Community Services:

Mr. Norman George from 1989 to 1994 gives free legal services and he is still giving probono legal services for those who cannot afford it.
